Harlow College is a medium sized tertiary college in the Essex town of Harlow with a financial turnover of £20m-£25m and a financial health category B. Harlow is the main provider of post-16 education in the area, with only one school in Harlow having a sixth form, and offers courses in most sector subject areas. The majority of students study vocational courses and during Ofsted’s monitoring visit in November 2008 the college demonstrated that it had made ‘significant progress’ in improving outcomes for students studying vocational courses. Additionally, A2 and AS level results have seen an improved pass rate of 95 per cent this year.
The college has undergone significant change in the last three years; a new teaching and learning strategy and new management structure have been introduced, and during Ofsted’s most recent visit to the college it was recognised that leaders and managers had made ‘reasonable progress’ in securing consistently good management in all curriculum areas. Over the last five years the college has invested £24 million to significantly renew its estate. New buildings have been created and existing facilities have been improved to provide high quality learning and skill opportunities for all members within our community. |
