Once upon a time volunteering was the remit of local charities and support groups. Enhancing work with the power and added value of volunteering was the sectors USP—not so anymore!
Almost every contract or procurement exercise that is coming from government and statutory agencies is now stipulating that most of the front line service delivery must be undertaken by volunteers. This is obviously a much cheaper option and reduces the call on the public purse, but this has its challenges to say the least.
Big businesses have for a long time valued volunteering as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility programme but benefits such as employee satisfaction, local profile and acquiring new skills are just as applicable to smaller businesses.
There has never been a better time for Harlow's private and not-for-profit sectors to collaborate for mutual benefit.
