Inspire & Engage : Linking Businesses with the Future Generation

The Chancellor's "Plan for Jobs" saw the announcement of incentives to help businesses attract and retain apprentices. Navigating the options and knowing what’s possible for your business, however, can be a minefield.

Anne Bailey, CEO and Co-Founder of Form the Future CIC, and Marc Rothera, Business Development Consultant from ARU, are experts in helping businesses recruit talent and create effective apprenticeship programmes.

The need to lead, inspire, and engage with the younger generation in our post-Covid-19 landscape is greater than ever. By bringing apprentices into your firm – you’ll recruit a loyal employee and help someone get their start in your industry – with research showing that 91% of apprentices stay in work or do further training after their apprenticeship.

This webinar is designed to help you learn about how to recruit an apprentice in your industry and will also cover the benefits they bring to business and bust myths and misconceptions around apprenticeships.

This webinar will take place virtually on Zoom. Once you have registered to join, you will be sent a link to connect and to add to your diary prior to the meeting.

Key details

Form the Future CIC was set up in 2015 to transform careers and enterprise provision in schools and colleges in Cambridge, South Cambridgeshire and East Cambridgeshire, having originally started in 2013 as a programme within the local 14-19 school’s partnership. Our programme is strongly employer led. The purpose is to inspire and prepare young people for their future careers through active employer engagement throughout their education. We have been trialing, evaluating, adapting and scaling our activities to the point where Form the Future is now the trusted careers education partner for most of the local secondary schools and a key partner for employers eager to build the work-readiness of the next generation in our region.

We are currently delivering a Greater Cambridge Partnership contract with Cambridge Regional College to achieve 420 additional apprenticeship starts, particularly in the strategically significant sectors such as IT, life sciences, engineering and construction. The objectives are to facilitate and grow connections between employers, schools, learners and other jobseekers, and training providers to increase the number of apprenticeships across Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire.

We are part of the ESF Target Apprenticeships consortium to deliver advice and guidance to residents in the former GCGP LEP territory. We coordinate the partners, leading on marketing and communications, and deliver to both candidates and SMEs who need help to establish new apprenticeship programmes. We are also the CEC Enterprise Coordinator for the Greater Cambridge area.

We bring very strong local connections with schools, employers and every major business network in the area and will play a key role in the Skills and Talent brokerage connecting learners and employers. In 2018-19 alone, our experienced 15-strong local team reached nearly 19,000 young people, worked with 649 volunteers from a variety of business backgrounds and delivered events and activities to 52 schools.
